I have a friend whose tinnitus went away on its own after 5 years. It is possible.
Keep in mind people that if you read internet message boards like this one, 99% of posts will be from current tinnitus sufferers. The people who recovered aren’t here anymore! And most don’t come back to forums to say they got better. So the ‘net paints an unfairly negative picture unfortunately. I believe that the recovery percentage is much higher than is believed. If someone got better and never told anyone, HOW WOULD ANYONE KNOW???
FO SURE!
grrr lol
ditto on that one. the awareness is crap! going deaf you are aware off but not this bloody noise in you head!
i had tinnitus for the past three weeks, it started out sparse, and i was even sort of able to control it. but the past week or so, it has been incessant, until today that is. last night, i was so distraught, and was going mad from the ringing while trying to sleep, that i literally began vomiting. i threw up 7 or 8 times. I finally, in my delirious state, started asking god for reprieve, and promised to stop smoking, drinking, eating excessively, etc. and now, its simply gone, RELIEF!.
I’ve had tinnitus for 8 years and it’s never got better, never got quieter and makes my life a living hell.
it is doing the exact opposite for me, my hearing is sooooo sensitive, a bag of chips crackling is enough to make me crazy!
I have tinnitus and fully support ATA but Mr. Shatner is just creepy to me lol everytime I think of my tinnitus I think of him and how creepy he is =/
I’m 19 and I just started having a very low humming sound in my left ear.. I don’t know why. I can only guess its from my headphones hearing loud music. The thing is, that hasen’t been true for a while, and it happened out of nowhere one night all quite..
good one man.. even i don know.. am having it for a week or two.. i hope it goes away…
I’ve been hearing impared all my life, may always have had tinnitus, only conscious of it now due to other ear problems. I didn’t know others didn’t “hear” these sounds. I hope it doesn’t get worse. I know how disabling and psychologically it can impact on one’s life.
I don’t think there will ever be a cure….of course we can reduce it. But from what I’ve read that it’s damage to the ears we can’t reverse. LOL yes servicemen & women that have get compensation…but my friend only gets an additional $100 a month on top of his disability pay because he has tinnitus.
I’m 18 and have heard ringing noises as long as I can remember, its just been getting worse the past 2 years. I always thought everyone heard these noises until I was aware of the disability. Its not noticeable during the day when you’re occupied on something else but when you’re trying to sleep its the only thing you can focus on. I lose hours of sleep every night because of tinnitus.
We have been bombarding the space around us for nearly a century with radio waves, then came TV signals, microwaves, and cell phones and no one mentions that. To think that tinnitus is merely from exposure to loud noise may be missing the real culprit. Human beings think that they can do anything they want to their environment or to food and water they consume without consequence. We want our modern society. Well here it is…complete with non stop ringing in the ears!
Ive had Tinnutis for 2 years as i can remember, it has started to worry me that i will eventually became deafened, I dont think i will but anyway if im with alot of people i can not hear it, it is if im on my laptop, like right now, i can hear the ringing right now, i wish i could go back in time to the days when i could sleep peacefully, Hopefully one day we WILL find a cure for this horrible thing, and dont worry for the other people who have it, Your not alone!!!!
Hi, can tinnitus cause deafness? I’m really worried. thank you.
Almost a year since I developed Tinnitus.
I’m starting to adapt to it, I don’t think I’ll ever accept it though, I still say to myself that it will just disappear one day, though I know deep down, I may have it for the rest of my life.
Its just a horrible condition which I wouldn’t wish upon anyone.
@Ibik HI Tinnitus does not cause deafness, however tinnitus can be a symptom of hearing loss (so it works the other way around). The most common cause of tinnitus is noise exposure and so in many cases, those who have lost some of their range of hearing will experience tinnitus as a result. For more information on tinnitus, what it is, what can be done to mitigate symptoms and what’s being done to cure it, please visit the american tinnitus association’s web site.
Ok some of you guys are saying it goes away and some of you are saying it doensn’t! Can it go away or not!!??!!!???
@ohheyytess For some people tinnitus can be temporary. For others it comes and goes and for others it is chronic, can destroy quality of life and can ruin relationships with friends and family. There are varying degrees of it. In the United States 50 million people experience tinnitus. 12 million have chronic tinnitus and seek medical attention for it and 2 million are completely disabled from it. This is precisely why more research on this condition is needed and that’s what the ATA is doing.
William Shatner has it? Alright. I’m good. Not feeling sad about it anymore.
thank you I thought i was going nuts but I’m not alone and I’m not going crazy but i really hate that noise especially when is quite
I have had Tinnitus my entire life. I did not realize it was actually a problem until I told my mom. She said me too. Then she told me a story about how her doctor once asked her if she hears anything. My mom said no, just the usual ringing sound. The doctor then realized she had tinnitus her whole life and it was never diagnosed because it had been there since birth. It sucks. I always wondered why it rang. I though that was normal.
God I want a cure.
I’ve got tinnitus from many ear infections when I was a kid. It takes some getting used to, but it’s not the end of the world. Be smart with your ears and protect what you’ve got.
My tinnitus is accompanied by wooziness when I move my head in certain ways. Every once in a while it’s accompanied by 3 minute bouts of dizziness.
@SheriffTankStoner You may have something called Meniere’s Disease – which often times has bouts of vertigo and tinnitus as symptoms. For more information on this visit the American Tinnitus Association’s Web site – also for more information on Meniere’s feel free to send me a message via you tube with your e-mail address and I will send you some additional articles.
