For the past few months, I’ve been experiencing moderate to severe symptoms caused from clenching my jaw at night and unconsciously during the day. Ear aches, ringing in the ears, jaw pain, headaches, and neck pain. I’ve been using a mouth guard, but it lost its effectiveness. Is there anything else I can do? I’m only 16 and seems ridiculous that I should be having these kinds of problems. Also, is this something that could be caused by depression?

I know exactly what you are going through, I have TMJD as well. Is your mouthguard from the dentist (made specifically for your teeth?). The mouthguard I suggest you try is an NTI mouthguard. Its a little pricey, but it give me so much relief. Get the daytime and nighttime one. Yes, depression can definitely cause physical pain, especially stress and anxiety, it all goes to my jaw. Don’t use a store-bought guard, get one made for you, its worth it. Also, ice both sides of your jaw and your neck, with those gel-ice packs, with a washcloth wrapped around it, and ask your doctor/dentist for a muscle relaxer like Klonopin, that’s what I take, to help relax the clenching muscles. You can never be too young for any physical problems, or depression, unfortunately….
